2008 Military Weekend
To all invited guests,
COL Dave Miller, USA (Ret.)
Deputy Commandant for
Leader Development
On behalf of our commandant Major General Jerrold Allen, it is my pleasure to announce the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Leadership Conference and Military Weekend, 7-9 February 2008. We are expecting representatives from eighteen academies and institutions to attend our conference and it is our hope that a faculty delegate and two of your students are able to join us.
The theme for our conference is: Professional Development: The art and science of teaching and learning leadership. The conference will focus the attention of three groups of students on specific topics related to professional development. They will also have an opportunity to participate in plenary sessions designed to expand their thinking about personal development. Faculty representatives will participate in a discussion pertaining to curriculum, administration and policy. Our intent is to provide a venue for open discussions on relevant issues where all can benefit and take something of value back to their institutions. Colonel Arthur Athens, USMCR and the U.S. Naval Academy's Distinguished Military Professor of Leadership will deliver the opening address.

Our conference will culminate with the formal Military Ball held Saturday evening. This event begins with the Senior Banquet and this year our guest of honor is LTGEN Jerry Boykin, USA, Ret. The night will be one to remember.
A schedule of events, a description of the three conference discussion issues and administrative information are available on this site for downloading. Please be sure to register for the conference using the form on this site. This will help us ensure all your needs are addressed.
To show our appreciation for participating in our conference, we?ve arranged for Colonel Wes Fox USMC (ret) to personalize a gift copy of his latest book, Courage and Fear, A Primer. Colonel Fox served 43 years in the United States Marine Corps and received the Medal of Honor for actions in Viet Nam. His latest book is a testament to courage and a study on overcoming fear. Colonel Fox is not able to attend the conference but he has graciously agreed to sign a copy for each guest.
