Civilian Track
The Ut Prosim Pylon
The mission of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets (VTCC) is to produce leaders of character and integrity, irrespective of whether they choose a civilian career upon graduation or whether they choose a military career via the Military Track and ROTC training. Civilian Track is the designation for those cadets who choose not to enroll in ROTC and, accordingly do not incur a military obligation after graduation. The cadets that choose this track, known as VPI Company by the cadets, will do their physical fitness together and attend a Tuesday afternoon lab designed to prepare them for careers in the civilian workforce. In addition, they will have the opportunity to hold leadership positions in this organization. This lab is a 1-hour accredited A-F course and is mandatory for all cadets in the Civilian Track program. As many Corps alumni who have distinguished themselves in the civilian world will testify, the training they received in the VTCC has set them head and shoulders above other civilian school graduates, including civilian graduates from Virginia Tech. Our cadet graduates are actively sought after by business, industry and public service employers in the civilian world.
The leadership and physical training offered by the VTCC is part of the daily life of all cadets. Opportunities for rank advancement and leadership positions within the Corps are open to all cadets irrespective of track designation. The camaraderie and lifetime friendships that characterize the VTCC experience are the same for all cadets. The networking and identification within the business world among former Virginia Tech cadets does not ask whether one is "Civilian Track" or ROTC, but only "Were you in the Corps?" That alone sets you apart.
