Air Force ROTC
Caldwell March
Air Force ROTC prepares students for the challenges and responsibilities of a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. Graduates of the program enter the active duty Air Force in one of nearly seventy career fields, which include aviation, space and missiles, communications, intelligence, science, and engineering.
Freshmen and sophomores are introduced to the Air Force through the study of current and historical operations in a one credit hour class each semester. Classroom study is enhanced by several chances to visit operational Air Force bases each year. During the summer following the sophomore year, cadets from across the nation attend a challenging four-week training and evaluation course which serves as a major milestone in a cadet's college carrer. The three credit hour courses during a cadet's junior and senior years focus on leadership, group dynamics, and communications, as well as national defense policy.
Freshmen and non-scholarship sophomores may participate in ROTC without any military obligation. Scholarships are available to both high school seniors and college freshmen and sophmores. Most scholarships cover full tuition and fees or $18K per year. Scholarships also provide a book allowance and a tax-free stipend of between $300 and $500 per month. Juniors and seniors who are not offered scholarships qualify for the book allowance and the tax-free stipend.
